First update of the new season, keep up to date on all my thoughts, follow or just pop in @FM0tter
So, my love for this save is back, the new season starts, and i need to add some recruits so we don’t lose quite so heavily and quite so frequently. My usual approach when it comes to transfer windows is to add no more than 3 first team players, so we dont disrupt the squad or the harmony. Coming into this season i had the usual problem of having 2 players on loan that i needed to replace straight away. Maitland-Niles definitely wouldn’t be coming back for a third season, last year he showed how much quality he had, and i fully expect him to become a fringe player back at Arsenal, Rossiter has the potential to do the same at Liverpool but didn’t light up the division as much. So without waffling like Boris too much, here is the business we conducted…
First of all our departing players, most of the lads here are starting to become fringe players, or always have been. Hyam, Mcgoldrick and Bru have left to player more regular football, they have all contributed at times and i wanted them to be playing while they still had years left ahead of them. Chambo was captain for 2 seasons, real quality player but as time goes on we needed a more mobile back 4, we have some nice right back options so again he was another player i didn’t want to see waste away on the bench, because he was a good servant we let him go on the cheap to get some game time. The 2 main surprises of this window, sales wise, were McClean and Lingard, now i am a man who is more than happy to admit when he makes an error, Lingard never really fit in with what we were doing, and was constantly out played by De Paul, Bahouli and Sears, so we let him loose, Bournemouth came and help us double our money in 6 months, happy days and everyone is a winner. McClean spent half of last season training by himself, i didnt want his poisonous attitude around the kids or anyone in the team, he kicked up a fuss after not starting 5 games, when i told him he needed to play better he claimed he was amazing, was happy to take a hit on this one and get him out of the club, if nobody came in for him i was going to cut his contract with us short.
Asmir comes in and adds some real quality for us in the nets, and he cost 1.6m i dont really need to say much more, but i will, this will take our back line up a level and save us about 10 points a season, at 30 years old he still has enough time left to be more than worth his weight in gold. Chelsea had him on the transfer list all season last year, so his price kept dropping, as did his wage demands, which was the killer for me, i dont like to break the bank in wages and 32k a week wits in well with me.
Danny came in at a steel of 3.2m he was a deadline day signing again to drive down his price and wage demands, Liverpool wanted rid and Danny wanted football, at this point i was already happy with my striking options, but i thought having an english born striker could do us some favours though the season when the going gets tough. Danny has all the qualities i like for this team, his first touch and passing skills are good, and he’s a treat in every way.
Knudsen has been quality, but Jefferson comes in and adds some real quality again to our back line, a typical brazilian fullback which really fits in with our style of play, down the left i like my winger to cut inside so Jefferson will have a lot of space in front of him to break forwards and create some chances
Not listed above as this deal was complete before the last season even ended, Jordan returns for the third time to us, and i really hope i can sign him on a long-term deal at the end of this season, he knows our style, he knows what we want from him in the DM position, what more can i say, great at intercepting the play and controlling the game from his deeper position
Juan Iturbe has come in for 12m and becomes our most expensive player, he has quality levels far above anything else we have in our team, the quality we have one the wings means he can be eased into life in England, but he should settle easily with our Argentinian portion of the squad, he will really make a mark in this league in the second half of the season
Luka comes in on loan to originally offer a back up option to Araujo, with Ings joining late in the window as well his options could be limited, but he is very similar to Ings so will really push for a starting spot, he will be back up cover as doesn’t offer enough of a difference to Danny to come off the bench
Oliver comes in a real Marquee signing, he has all the qualities i am looking for in a Maitland-Niles replacement, needs some minor re-training to be comfortable in the role but he is close to the finished artical, i expect him to really push us up the table in the second half of the season again once he is settled. Look at the dribbling, Passing, First Touch, Technique, Flair and Vision on the lad, a real quality signing for us here.
Second signing from Chelsea this season or second steal from Chelsea, Papy is a quality centre back, he also knows how and where to pass a ball, so should work really well with McNair and Rossiter, a steal at the price we got him for and has a good few years ahead of him
“I had the next few years in mind with this deal” our youth coaching hasn’t produced any special talents, so Victor has come in as a young lad with tons of quality, he will grow into being a fab player, i intend to train him to work down the left, creating a Brazilian connection.
This wraps up our summer business, we’ve made a slight change again to the tactic, reverting our wingers back into the midfield position, hopefully this will make us more defensively stable again. Until January then guys…
